The title page is the first thing the examiner will see in your work. It is where the impression of the abstract begins, and the grade may depend to some extent on how neatly it is designed. Therefore, it is important not only to know what to write, but also how to properly design the title page, because if it does not meet the established requirements, the teacher may not even open the text itself and send the work back for revision.

The design rules are described in the methodological guidelines of a specific educational institution, as well as state recommendations. But before you start designing, check with the teacher: perhaps he or she has special requirements or preferences. After all, some academic supervisors are especially demanding of formalities.

How to compose an abstract title page: basic recommendations

Before you start designing the abstract title page, it is worth understanding the basic requirements. This will help to avoid mistakes and unnecessary revisions.

Margins

Standard sizes:

  • left – 3 cm;
  • right – at least 1.5 cm;
  • top and bottom — 2 cm each.

However, some teachers may request deviations from the standards. Therefore, it is better to clarify in advance what design parameters the examiner expects to see.

Numbering and font

Although the title page is formally considered the first page, the number “1” is not put on it. The numbering often begins with the introduction — with the number “3” if the content is placed on the second page (which is also not numbered). But the rules may vary depending on the university or department.

The classic Times New Roman font, size 14, is used for the title page text.

What should be on the title page?

Mandatory design elements of the title page:

  • full name of the university and department;subject name;
  • topic of the abstract;
  • student details: full name, year, group, form of study;
  • name of the teacher;
  • city and year of work completion.

Stages of creating a title page for an essay

Having mastered the basic rules, let’s move on to the step-by-step design of the title page of the essay. For convenience, we will conditionally divide the A4 sheet into four parts: the top, the center, the right and the bottom. Each of them requires compliance with certain standards.

Upper part: we design the header of the title page

At the very top of the page, in the center and in capital letters, indicate: MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE. Below is the name of the educational institution (also in capital letters), and then the name of the department. All information is aligned to the center of the page.

To avoid mistakes, you can take the necessary wording from other educational documents of your university or college, using them as templates.

Central part: topic of the abstract

This area contains the main information. First, the word “ABSTRACT” is written in the center (in capital letters). Next, the academic discipline is written and, just below, the full topic of the work. Everything is centered.

Right part: information about the student and teacher

This block is placed closer to the right edge of the page. The following is indicated here:

  • Student’s full name;
  • Year, group, form of study;
  • Teacher’s details, including their position and last name with initials.

Format the text so that it is evenly distributed across the page template, changing the distance between the information blocks. Please note that when printing a sheet in a third-party text editor (or a version different from yours), the text layout may be disrupted. Therefore, carefully check the text before sending it to the printer.

Lower part: city and year

The year the work was written and the city where it is located.

Conclusions and recommendations

So, to avoid unnecessary edits and misunderstandings during verification, you should adhere to the general rules: use standard fonts, observe the margin sizes, do not put numbers on the first pages and accurately indicate all the necessary data (university, department, topic, discipline, full name, year, etc.).

Recommendation: once you have made a correct title page, save the sample in Word or your text editor – a ready-made example will save time during future work. Just replace the topic and data.
